Specialist lender Cambridge & Counties Bank has further expanded its North West team with two new appointments. Gordon Spotten has joined as a Senior Business Development Manager while Paula McLaughlin has been appointed Relationship Manager.
The appointments follow the opening last year of the bank’s new office in central Manchester as a means to better serve regional clients and commercial finance brokers. The Leicester-headquartered bank now has four offices across the UK, including its asset finance-focused Reading hub.
Gordon Spotten joins the bank from the Manchester team at lender Together. Prior to that role, he was a Relationship Manager at TSB, also in Manchester. Paula began her professional career at NatWest, before moving to The Co-operative Bank to work in its payment operations and corporate banking divisions. In November 2022, she joined the Co-operative Bank’s SME Relationship banking team.
Cambridge & Counties Bank’s office in Manchester is headed up by Scott Barber, Regional Director and Head of Trading and Investment (T&I) deals for the North. T&I transactions are funding deals worth between £500k to £3.5 million though the office also provides lending starting at £250k all the way up to a maximum of £15 million.
The bank has seen continued, strong demand for its specialist lending solutions in the North West region, with lending increasing by 11% year-on-year to the end of January. Deals remain spread across the region, including in Bolton, Liverpool, Manchester, Salford and Wigan, to name a few.

Scott Barber, Regional Director at Cambridge & Counties Bank, said:
“I’m delighted to be announcing two great new appointments to the local Manchester team and the further expansion of our office. Both Gordon and Paula have extensive experience and great contacts and will help us meet our own aspirations for growth.
“The bank is now even better positioned to serve SMEs and property professionals with our dedicated lending solutions.”
